Who’s top of the league for value?

Who’s top of the league for value?

With football in the headlines we thought we’d turn your attention to the Premiership to find out what teams were worth the price of the season ticket, and what teams gave good value. The most expensive season tickets can cost almost £1,000, and a lot of fans save all year for one.

The ING Direct Value League is calculated by taking the points a team has earned in the Premiership, giving extra points for goals scored at home, and then dividing the total into the average cost of a season ticket. The results may surprise you.

Top of the table are Aston Villa, Blackburn and Manchester City. Giants Manchester United are in fourth position, while league winners Chelsea languish in eighth. By contrast, Wigan are ranked fifth in terms of value for money, despite a near relegation finish. Wigan’s season tickets are the cheapest in the division, while Chelsea’s are one of the most expensive, proving that value for money is not all about the team’s performance.

Keep an eye out for next year’s Value League to see who’s hovering in the relegation zone and who’s really pulled their socks up when it comes to offering value for money.

Source: Research was conducted by Football Fans Census and ING Direct in March and May 2010. Total sample size was 2,020 adult season ticket holders of Premiership clubs.
