Summer brings on the savings buzz

Summer brings on the savings buzz

We’ve just published the findings from the latest ING Direct Consumer Savings Monitor – a quarterly report that looks at the savings habits of the average person in the UK. And the results? Well it shows that summer seems to put people in the mood for saving.

While the research shows that the savings of ordinary people dropped by 8.3% in the first quarter of 2010 to an average of £2,023, most people have indicated that they’re aiming to build up their savings cushion for the rest of the year.

Even more positive is the fact that the percentage of people with no savings at all has fallen from last quarter’s figure, dropping from 25.3% to 24.2%.

In terms of the male/female split it looks like women certainly do have more to spend their money on as they don’t compare well to the men in a direct savings face off! The last quarter showed that men had, on average £1,417 more in savings than women.
